Vidal (Darín) is about to be bankrupt, so he sets up a fake car robbery with a small-time mobster to collect insurance and split the money. But his perfect plan becomes entangled by his increasingly dangerous ties to the mob and the meddling of a rogue insurance investigator (Pinti), who eventually strikes a deal with Vidal and decides to team up with him and his wife (Papaleo) to bring down the mob and expose the corruption that links a high-ranking executive to the mafia.

June 1994. In the mountains of the Pyrenees, a man vanishes without motive. Marti is a normal man ; a little bit shy. One morning, he drives away from his spanish village with his motorbike. He leaves the moto under an oak, with his wallet and his cap, and he gets lost in the mountain. He prepares himself to commit suicide with his hunting rifle, but he doesn't make the fatal gesture. He doesn't dare neither to go back to the village and spends the night under the open sky, in the fields he has known since his early childhood. He doesn't come back the next day, and neither the following one. This is how he starts the life of a survivor in the Eastern Pyrenees.

A plot that surrounds police officers, politicians and consultants who crudely demonstrate the lines apparently hidden of the political system and public institutions.

Cristina is twenty years old. Her father was declared missing in action during the war in Angola many years before. One day in church the girl meets a man about fifty years old who tries various times, unsuccessfully, to make the sign of the cross. The man is called Cristovão. A few days later the two meet again. The man offers to help her look for her father. A relationship based on memories and confessions is formed between them. But soon they each return to their own solitude.
